RE: Finally! Roo is Ready to Roll!

Good luck with the 233! We love ours. So far, we have spent 8 nights in it and all is well so far.

RE: Towing w/ SUV

I tow with an F-150 and would not consider towing without Weight Distribution and sway control. Ignore your manual and tow safe.
Happy camping with your new trailer.

RE: New Flagstaff Shamrock Owner, need help folding in beds

Here are a couple of thoughts:
1. On our Shamrock 233, the rear bunk presented the opportunity to fold up the mattress and stand it up against the Bathroom wall. The bunk is easier to close without the weight of the mattress. The tenting is neatly stowed between the bunk and the mattress.
2. Our side and front bunks do not have a wall to lean the mattresses against. We have tried various methods with mixed success. When we snap our side bunk down, the snaps tend to pop loose during the trip. The front bunk so far has stayed in place. Either way, closing the bunks with the mattresses on them is harder than without. Our Travelstar came with straps that were used to hold one of the mattresses in a standing position against the front bunk. The straps were crossed (ie. top left to bottom right, top right to bottom left). I am thinking about putting hooks on the bottom corners of each bunk. The top cable fasteners would work. We then could close the bunk by taking the mattress off the bunk, closing the bunk up, standing the mattress up and attaching the straps.
I would like to get to the point where closing the bunks could be a one person operation.

RE: Picked up new trailer today, heading out tomorrow!

The flat tongue jack attachment is a BAL Foot pad that the dealer had in stock.

RE: Picked up new trailer today, heading out tomorrow!

We survived the shakedown cruise! We dry camped for 3 nights with 5 adults, had hard rain one night, had to pack up in the rain, got lot's of sand in the trailer, and had no major problems. The trailer towed very nice.
Before we left, I discussed the wheel well problem with the dealer and they recommended using Liquid Nails until we can take the trailer in. I bought some fresh Liquid Nails on the way and brought my caulk gun on the trip. I caulked the seam up by removing the drawers and applying the caulk. I pressed the liner up against the trailer frame using a couple pieces of firewood. The seam held tight during the 130 mile return trip.
Mod number 1 was to take the jack wheel off and replace it with a pad. Who would try to move one of these trailers by hand?
We did encounter a number of very minor problems with the trailer, including a finicky zipper, a zipper that will not open all the way, and some mattress stitching that is unraveling.
I already have a long list of to-do's, but time is tight. We are heading out next week for five nights of dry camping.

Picked up new trailer today, heading out tomorrow!

We picked up a new 2009 Shamrock 233 today. We ordered it many months ago and are very glad the waiting is over! All systems are go. We spent about 3 1/2 hours today with the dealer doing the walk thru and getting a couple of minor problems corrected. Many thanks to all Forest River posters here. The marker lights are caulked up really nice. The gaskets on all three bunks fit well. It is getting a rain test tonight!
Tomorrow we are heading out for a 3 night shakedown cruise.
Only one problem found since we left the dealer. DS leaned on an open drawer and popped it off the guide. When I went to fix it, I noticed that I could see daylight behind the drawer. Seems the caulking around the plastic liner in one of the wheel wells is missing. Will have to talk to service tomorrow before heading out.

RE: Towing mirrors

If price is no object, you could get your mirrors replaced with Ford telescoping towing mirrors. These are available for F-150s which your Expedition is based on. They are a bolt on replacement for the regular ones. A pair of them will run around $500. They are nice since there are no straps and since they are a solid mount, there is no movement of the reflected image. You just grab ahold of them and slide them out for towing and push them in for non-towing. They are similar to the F-250 mirrors. I have seen them on F-150's on dealer lots. Drive through a couple of dealers lots. You may see a couple of them on new F-150s. This is not just a Ford thing. I have seen similar mirrors on GMs, Chevys, Dodges, and Toyotas.

RE: Minivan towing a Hybrid, the numbers seem to work?

Don't trust any numbers that you see unless you are looking at a scale. Either way, I would not tow our Travelstar 19CK (2841 GVW) with our Windstar. No way, no how. We towed the trailer with a Explorer and ended replacing just about the whole drivetrain and the brakes every year. I cringe when I see trailers going down the road taking the tow vehicle for a ride. Lots of people recommend a 20% safety margin on the weights. Listen to them, I didn't and wished that I had.

RE: Kayak Stolen Memorial Day Weekend

Bummer. I guess that you got spoiled at Rollin's Pond. We camp at a lot of the NYS parks in the Adirondacks, including Rollin's sister park, Fish Creek Pond, and everyone leaves canoes and kayaks unlocked.
We used to lock up our canoe and kayak at the campsites. Everyone used to pick on us for doing that. I guess that we should start locking our boats up again.
Sorry for your loss. Will pass the word to keep an eye out for a damaged bright orange two man 14' Perception Acadia II. There aren't that many of them around.

RE: HTT Parking Spot

We put in a 9 foot by 30 foot concrete pad (6" thick) with 8" of packed stone driveway mix under it. We could only go 9 foot wide. We went 30 feet long to match existing sidewalks. The pad has a 1/4" per foot slope across the width for drainage. We put one side of the trailer up on a 2x12 to get the trailer level, The door of the trailer lines up with a sidewalk to a covered patio at the back of the house (about 5 feet away!).

Leaf-Peeper,
Great information! Will be picking up a Shamrock 233 in the next few weeks and will make sure that the dealer addresses these issues before signing.

RE: Minimum tow capacity for my trailer???

If you move smaller, make sure you get the tow package and a V8. 5000 lbs seems low. Try to find a SUV with more than that. Also, the shorter wheel bases of the SUVs may make for more of a white knuckle ride. Your F-150 is a great tow vehicle. You may be under-impressed when you tow with a smaller SUV. We towed with a Explorer and moved up. Most people seem to move up from the smaller SUV's to a 1500/150 or similar capability vehicle.
See if you can take a SUV for a test drive and tow your trailer.

RE: Towing Question on ROO 233

Great decisions. You won't regret it.
Now, have you considered having them install vent covers? Not a necessity, but really nice on a rainy day.

Pulled the trigger on a 2008/2009 Shamrock 233

Well we finally did it. We pulled the trigger on a 2008/2009 Shamrock 233. We are moving up to a little bit larger trailer. DW liked the Shamrock color schemes. We bought one that is in process of being built. It should arrive in around 3 weeks. We got a all of the options the way we wanted them and we got a good deal on our trade-in. Did we get the best deal? Maybe not, but, we did pretty good.
The dealer is going to be installing some of our additional requested options on the 233 before we pick it up. They include MaxAir vents on both vents and a white RV Hand Rail handle next to the door. They told us to plan on a 2 hour PDI that will take place on the morning of the day that we pick up the trailer. That gives them time in the afternoon of the day of the pickup to fix anything that we are not happy with.
Thanks to everyone that posts here. You have provided very helpful advice. Much appreciated. I have a long list of RV.NET modifications that I want to make. Many may have to wait until after the first camping season finishes. We already have 6 trips scheduled!
Now, since the Shamrock is wider that the 2004 Travelstar, I am considering a mod to the F-150. I am looking at putting the Ford telescoping trailer towing mirrors on. They are larger than the normal mirrors but are more solid than the clip-on mirrors.

We have the Travelstar 19CK. Had one minor problem with the front bunk seal. Our dealer quickly fixed the problem. Overall have enjoyed the trailer.

RE: roof vents in 233

$60 per cover seems about right. The cover for the Fantastic Fan is normally a little more ($75 +/-) than the normal roof vent cover ($30 +/-). For an installed price of $120, it seems like a good deal.

RE: roof vents in 233

There are 2 vents. A Fantastic Fan in the bathroom and a regular fan by the door.
I recommend the vent covers. It is nice to be able to leave the vents open on a rainy day. I tend to leave the vents open most of the time when we are not camping.

RE: Tow Vehicle

Depending on how far you tow and the hills that you might encounter, you may be OK. We started out with a V6 Explorer. We towed with the Explorer for 3 years. When we started traveling further, the Explorer concerned us as a tow vehicle. You can see in out signature what we did.
Good luck with your new trailer. We are looking to possibly buy a 233 as well.
